The Final Entry

Well, we're going to be shutting down the old blogspot...May 15. She's been around for a few years, but just doesn't get updated like she should.

If you want some good interaction with the Clarksburg Baptist Church community and staff, go to Facebook and add Clarksburg Baptist as a friend.

Acts 6 and 7 tell us about a man named Stephen. We are told he was full of faith and the Holy Spirit.

As you read his brief story, you find that he was also knowledgeable, articulate, dedicated, courageous, and forgiving.

What did all these great qualities get him? Stoned...the biblical variety where people throw rocks at you until they kill you.

Well, actually the people might have been OK with the above mentioned qualities had it not been for two more Stephen possessed...conviction and honesty.

Worship with us, Sunday, as we examine these last two. Please leave your rocks at home.

Matthew’s gospel records two very short parables of Jesus. Both parables, combined, only take three verses.

In one, Jesus says the Kingdom of God is like a hidden treasure in a field. In the other, he says the Kingdom is like a very valuable pearl.

In each, the finder of these objects goes and sells everything he has so that he can possess what he has found. What would make someone do such a thing?

Worship with us, Sunday, and find out.

Worship

When our children were small, they spent a lot of time at our next-door neighbor’s house. They were like grandparents.

The man, Ern, was incredible. He could build and fix just about anything. In fact, our children used to say that Ern could do anything.

Truth be told, we humans have our limitations. However, we serve a God who is not limited and who indeed can do anything.

And so, whatever happens, we remember how powerful God is…and what a difference that power can make in our lives each day.

I hope to see you in worship, Sunday.

Seems like there are a lot of definitions of hope floating around out there in a sea of turmoil. If you are sinking, which one do you grab hold of?

Unfortunately, many of those definitions of hope are tied to the success or failure of government programs, bank accounts, the stock market, and the health care system.

Christians are certainly not imune from any of the financial and health related issues that affect everyone else. What we do have, however, is a reason for hope that is not tied to any of them.

Paul reminds us, "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." (2 Corinthians 4:18)

I hope you will join us for worship, during March, as we explore our true reason to hope.
